Affiliate disclosure
How weghtloss.com makes money — and how we make sure the money never decides what gets recommended.
The short version
Many product links on weghtloss.com are affiliate links. If you click through and buy something, we earn a commission. The price you pay does not change. No tracking gymnastics. No hidden upcharges.
Which links pay us
We typically earn commissions on:
- Supplement brands sold direct-to-consumer (Lulutox, Purisaki, Sumatra Slim Belly Tonic, and similar)
- Digital programs and meal plans (The Smoothie Diet, others)
- Books, apps, and services we review
We typically do not earn commissions on:
- Links to PubMed, NIH, WHO, academic journals, news outlets
- Links to manufacturer websites where no affiliate program exists
- Internal links between our own articles
How commissions work
When you click a link and buy something on the destination site, the retailer uses a tracking cookie to credit us a percentage of the sale (typically 10-50%, sometimes a flat fee). The commission comes out of the retailer's margin — not your wallet.
We may also receive different commission rates from different brands, including from competitors in the same category. This does not influence what we recommend.
How we keep editorial honest
Three rules:
- Reviews are written before commissions are checked. The writer evaluates the product based on the methodology we publish. Commission rates are only attached at the link-insertion stage.
- We have killed positive reviews of high-commission products when they didn't hold up to evidence-based scrutiny. We have written positive reviews of products that pay us nothing.
- Comparison articles rank by criteria, not commission. When you see "X vs Y" or "best of" lists, the ordering is based on the rubric stated in the article (ingredient quality, evidence base, manufacturing transparency, price-per-effective-dose, etc.), not by what each brand pays.
FTC compliance
US Federal Trade Commission rules (16 CFR Part 255) require us to disclose material connections to brands we link to. We do so:
- In a disclosure banner near the top of any article containing affiliate links
- On this disclosure page
- In the footer of every page
Sponsored content policy
We do not publish sponsored content. We do not accept payment to write articles. We do not accept "guest posts" from brands. If a piece is ever sponsored (which we do not currently do), it will be clearly labeled as such at the top of the article and in the URL.
Cookies & tracking
Affiliate links typically set a tracking cookie when you click them. This cookie tells the retailer that we referred the sale if and when you complete a purchase. The cookie does not track you across the web; it expires after a fixed period (commonly 30-90 days).
We use standard web analytics (page-view tracking, traffic source) to understand which articles are useful. We do not sell or share reader data with third parties.
